IWN: Woodbridge boys wind up 14-14

Woodbridge 40, Palm Springs 59:  Woodbridge High's boys basketball team had its season end Friday night with a 59-40 loss at Palm Springs in a ClF Division 3-AA second-round game.

  

But it was a season to remember for the Warriors, who moved back up in the standings in the Sea View League.

Hoover led by three points with five minutes left in the game but Woodbridge rallied and moved ahead with a minute left.  A layup by Hoover with 10 seconds left tied the game and both teams went into overtime.

  

In the extra period, Woodbridge made 13 of 14 free throws and pulled away from the Tornadoes to advance to the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division 3-AA playoffs.

Boys JV Basketball wins League Title

Woodbridge (JV) 75, Northwood (JV) 55:  With a convincing win last Wednesday at Northwood, the JV Warriors finished their basketball season by winning the Sea View League title.

  

Woodbridge finished the season at 23-4 overall, 9-1 in League.  Complete JV Schedule/Results.

Boys Basketball enters CIF Playoffs on high note

Woodbridge 59, Northwood 46:  The Warriors (7-3 League, 13-13 Overall) had already secured second place in the Sea View League but came out with energy to beat the Timberwolves (1-9, 8-18) Thursday night at the Northwood High School gym to finish league competition.

Boys Basketball locks up 2nd in league, CIF Playoff berth

Woodbridge 65, Trabuco Hills 44:  The Warriors (6-3 League, 12-13 Overall) played a near-perfect game against the Mustangs (4-5, 14-11) and captured second place in the Sea View League standings Tuesday night at Trabuco Hills High School.

Boys Basketball can't keep #3 Knights from league title

Woodbridge scoring was led by Nick Gstrein with 24 points who also had 15 rebounds.  Game details.  

  

The next game for the Warriors includes a time change on Friday when they play Huntington Beach at the WHS Gym.  The game is now at 7:00pm instead of at the original 7:30pm game time.  The Boys JV game is now at 5:30pm.  

  

JV Boys complete sweep; start 2nd round of league play

The Boys Junior Varsity Basketball team continued their winning ways over the past weekends.  

  

On Friday, Jan 22nd, they faced crosstown rival Northwood in a Sea View League match.  Woodbridge prevailed by a score of 74-51.  The next night in a non-league game the opponent was University High School.  The Baby Warriors were again successful after a slow start; final score was 60-42.

Woodbridge started the game slow with turnovers and foul trouble in the first quarter, ending the period behind 12-9.  Gaining some rhythm in the second quarter, the Warriors kept battling throughout the first half and into the third period.  Woodbridge took over in the fourth quarter with a 10-0 streak to begin the period.

Boys Basketball takes critical game from Oilers

A point down at halftime, Woodbridge outscored Huntington Beach 19-10 in the third quarter and continued to dominate in the fourth quarter to close out the game.

  

Woodbridge scoring was led by Nick Gstrein and Jason Payne, with 14 points each.  Gstrein also had 12 rebounds and Payne had four 3-point goals, all in the third quarter.  Ryan Garvin added 13 points.  Game details

Boys Basketball loses to #4 Foothill

Woodbridge 41, Foothill 66:  The Warriors (1-1 League, 7-11 Overall) stayed within reach through three quarters but the fourth-ranked Knights (2-0, 16-2) won handily in Tuesday's game at Foothill.  Game details.

Boys Basketball wins thriller against El Toro

Woodbridge 51, El Toro 50:  With seconds remaining, Blake Dalton made three key free throws and Ryan Garvin made one to give the Warriors (1-0 League, 7-9 Overall) a win against the Chargers (0-1, 9-4) in the Sea View League opener Friday night at the Woodbridge gym.  Game details

JV Boys Basketball off to fast start

The Junior Varsity Boys Basketball team opened the season with a 3rd place finish in the Tustin Tournament. 

  

Last week, the young warriors improved to 5-1 with impressive wins over Newport Harbor and crosstown rival Irvine.  The team has been led in the early going by Ace Haidrey, Gregory Brown, Alex Busch and Austin Rouk

  

The month of December will find the team in two tournaments; El Toro this week and Los Alamitos after Christmas.

#10 ranked Warriors Boys Basketball beat Sailors

Woodbridge 46, Newport Harbor 40:  The tenth-ranked Warriors came off of a tough Diablo Inferno Classic at Mission Viejo High School last week, where they lost three tough games to higher ranked teams, to beat the Sailors on the road Tuesday night.  Game details.

  

Woodbridge (2-3) was led in scoring by Calvin Clark with 13 points and Ryan Garvin with 12, including 3 three-point goals.
