Individual events for the athletes are assigned due to the team’s needs and the athlete’s performances in practices, time trials, and different meets in that event.  It is important to remember that each athlete must put the team’s needs ahead of the individual preferences.  The coaches are not going to ask an athlete to participate in an event unless they (coaches) feel that this decision would help the team and individual and that the athlete would be successful at that event.  On many occasions, athletes discover hidden talent in events they would normally not want to try.
