Oct 25, 2007 -- Cross Country Meet Postponed until Friday

The Apache Cross Country Invitational (Arcadia), originally scheduled for Thursday, has been postponed until Friday.

** UPDATED Thu, Oct 25th 4:00pm **  Given the decision by IUSD to cancel school activities including athletics through the weekend, please check back frequently through 11:00am Friday for updates on the status of attending the Apache Invitational meet.

The following is the original notification posted on Wednesday; this will be further updated Thursday evening and Friday morning as we know more:

The e-mail below was received from the meet manager of the Apache Cross Country Invitational (Arcadia).  Even though this is an inconvenience to all of our plans, we will be attending the meet on Friday with the time schedule being exactly what is was for Thursday.  Given what we have experienced this week (in terms of training), this is a better scenario to our goals.  We will leave at 11:30am; you will be dismissed from 4th period.

Thank you for your assistance and follow through on this event.

Coach Varvas

From Coach Jim O'Brien: “After consulting with our administration, it had been decided that we will postpone the meet until Friday, Oct. 26th. I wanted to get this to you as soon as I knew anything and hope that all of you will be able to adjust your plans. These fires have challenged all of us and I guess it is a lesson in being flexible with acts of GOD. I was on the phone earlier today (at 2:00 pm) with the head meteorologist at AQMD and he assured me that the air quality today was good enough in the central area (Arcadia) to host a competition and only those sensitive individuals (translated - older people) need to take precautions. But in the interest of erring on the side of safety to our athletes, we are postponing. The County Park was agreeable to switch our reservation to Friday and the weather service assures me there is a cooling trend coming. I am looking at this as a positive for our kids; one more easy day of training and potentially "faster times at Arcadia High." If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to call me at home (626) 599-8626 or my cell # (626) 993-4346. We are still excited about hosting a quality meet and look forward to racing on Friday.
