Boys Tennis competes in League doubles championship
The Woodbridge Boys Tennis team competed Monday and Tuesday in the League Finals at the Woodbridge Tennis Center. In the two days of competition, a singles and a doubles champion was crowned.
In the singles competition, Andre Halabi lost to the eventual champion Junja Yoshida of Northwood in straight sets in the semi-final and then lost to Jonathan Huang of Foothill to finish fourth.
In doubles, the Warriors' team of Matt Leung and Mikey Zablan defeated the Northwood #1 seed in straight sets in the semis. The finals between Woodbridge and Northwood's #2 doubles team went the distance. After losing a close first set, 4-6, the Warriors team came back to take a tight 7-5 second set. The third set, with one service break each, ended up in a tie-breaker. Woodbridge had a match point at 7-6 in the tie-break, but ended up losing the next three points and the subsequent tie-break, 7-9, with Northwood winning the championship. Both teams fought hard in the championship match.
Woodbridge finished second behind Northwood in Sea View League competition to qualify to play in the CIF Division I team tournament. The CIF Prelims begins this Thursday, May 8th against Fountain Valley at 3:00pm at the Woodbridge Tennis Center.
