Babcock -- 4:16.42 in 1500m qualifying for Olympic Trials
Warrior senior Christine Babcock ran a 1500 meter qualifying race at the Southern California High Performance Meet at Mt. SAC Sunday evening to improve her chances of being invited to the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon later this month.
Christine's time of 4:16.42 places her currently as the 27th qualifying time for the Olympic Trials of a total of 30 places that will be invited. Her performance, against literally no other competitive runners in the race to help push her to a faster time, also set a national high school record in the 1500 meters. Watch Christine's race.
Christine's new 1500-meter national high school record breaks the previous 26-year-old record of 4:16.6 by Kim Gallagher of Fort Washington, Pennsylvania set on June 12, 1982.
The event, a "last chance" meet for Olympic hopefuls, was sparsely attended except for an excited, robust crowd of Woodbridge followers and the media crew from DyeStatCal.com. Final announcements of the 30 qualifiers in the 1500 meters for the Olympic Trials will be made this Wednesday.
