IWN: Woodbridge softball team falls to El Modena

Woodbridge 0, El Modena 6: Woodbridge High's girls softball team is trying to adjust to life without its ace pitcher, Danica Bishop. The freshman broke her thumb on a line drive in Saturday's game with Marina and is lost for the season.
Tuesday, junior Heather Gorey tried to pick up the slack on the mound, but Woodbridge (3-5) fell to El Modena, 6-0, in a nonleague game at Barber Park.
"Obviously, we're trying to get ourselves re-settled after Saturday," Warrior Coach Alan Dugard said. "Right now, Heather and Michelle Katz are going to have to try and carry the load."
El Modena (4-3) parlayed six hits and an error into five runs in the second inning, then added an unearned run in the seventh.
Woodbridge, which was held to two hits, threatened to break the shutout in the bottom of the seventh inning. Christina Stepanian walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Gorey then reached on an error, putting runners on first and third, but the next three Warriors struck out to end the game.
