Boys Lacrosse champs "Own the City"
Congratulations to the Woodbridge Boys' Lacrosse team, winners of this year's Own the City Tournament, played Saturday at Irvine Stadium. Read Tim Burt's Irvine World News article.
A win over Irvine in the first game on Saturday afternoon put the Warriors into the championship game. After getting off to a slow start, the Warriors came on for a 4-3 victory with strong play by Matt Kline and Josh Cato.
In the championship game versus league rival Northwood Saturday evening, the Warriors played great defense, led by tournament MVP goalkeeper John Barns and Max Neser to win the game 5-2. Justin Shotwell was outstanding on offense.
Barns had 11 saves in the first game and 9 saves in the second game. He was on fire in the championship game, not allowing a single goal in the second half.
"I am extremely happy with the effort of all the players and look forward to having the Own the City cup at Woodbridge for the next year," said coach Scott Sodorff.
There will be one more chance to come out and see the Warriors in action on Thursday when the Warriors take on Aliso Niguel at Alton Field at 3:30pm.
