Cross Country Newsletter (11/12/12)
It was a beautiful Crisp morning at Mt Sac for our prelims.  What an exciting set of races!  I was proud of the effort put forth by all of our athletes, and I would like to thank all of those who came to cheer on the team.
The boys finished 8th in their heat (66th out of all 540 schools contesting cross country in the CIF-SS), with a time of 81:58 on this hilly, challenging course.  While the boys’ team does not go on to CIF finals, Jackson Marshall is able to go on as an individual with a time of 15:24 (# 27 runner in the entire meet). I would like to congratulate all the boys on their hard work.  You can take pride in what you have accomplished. This has been a good experience for a young team, and I look forward to next year for you.  Justin, as our only senior boy, I’d like to say I am proud of how you ended this season.
For the Girls team, they finished 3rd in their heat (16th out of all the 540 schools that contest cross country in the CIF-SS), with a time of 94:12, and are continuing on to CIF Finals.  Great Job Ladies!
Next week (at Mt. Sac again) will be the most challenging race of the season to date, as we face some of the best schools in the State.  We need to remain focused, continue our training, and be ready both mentally and physically to run a great race next Saturday.
Athletes of the Meet:  Jackson Marshall (15:24) took 5th in his heat, and continues on to CIF Finals and  Alyssa Gutcher (18:26) took 11th in her heat, to lead the girls to CIF Finals.

CIF Finals Schedule:

Boys D2 Race (Jackson): 9:05
Girls D2 Race: 10:05

Cross Country Newsletter 11/5/2012
Congratulations to all at the league finals!  As predicted, the races were exciting, the weather was perfect, and the course was great.   There were 57 new PR’s, even after the great meet last week which had 61 new PR’s!  All week long, we have talked about this meet, and how it will be the last one of the season for most of our athletes.  I was proud of how pumped up everyone was at the meet, and how everyone got out there and ran their best.
The boys  Varsity team  took 2nd in the race, and 2nd in the league.  Jackson Marshall was the League Champion with a time of 14:58!  Jake Suiste came in 2nd for the league with a new PR time of 15:11, and Ralphy Lara took 10th in the League with a time of 15:49.  Christian Choi ran a new PR (16:23), Dariuss Chriss ran a new PR of (16:36), Justin Larius ran a solid 16:38, and Anish Reddy also ran a new PR of (16:53).
JV boys took 2nd in the race, and finished 1st in the league.  Great job goes out to Adar Karny for taking 2nd in the JV with a new PR of 16:48.
Frosh/soph boys took 2nd at the meet and finished 2nd in league.  This would not have been possible if the boys had not run all 5 runners with only a 14 seconds between them.
On the girls side, Varsity took 1st in the race, and 1st in the league.  Maddy Bradford has a new PR to take 2nd as an individual with a time of 17:32.  She was followed by Kyle Oefelein in 4th with a new PR of 17:54.  Alyssa Gutcher came in 5th overall with a time of 18:00, followed by Olivia Rodriguez in 9th place with a new PR of 18:18.  Ana-Paola came in 10th, with a new PR of 18:20, and Emilie Birchler came in 14th with a PR of 18:32. Rounding out the girls team was Hannah O’Conner who was 25th, with a time of 19:04.
JV girls took 2nd in their race, and 2nd in the league.  Alexis took first in the JV race with a time of 18:50, followed by Lauren Chen (19:20) and Jackie Foley (19:32).
Frosh/Soph girls took 3rd in their race and 3rd in their league.  Our top 5 were Katie Peterson (20:11), Rini Jablonski (20:13), Sophie Huisken (20:22), Rachel Oliver (20:36), and Nicole Ledina (20:39)
Great Job everyone!
Both our Varsity teams are continuing on to CIF Prelims this coming Saturday at Mt. Sac.  The course is a hilly course, something our Monday hill workouts, as well as races like Sunny hills and Kit Carson has prepared us well for.

Athlete of the Meet:   Jake Suiste ran an new PR time of 15:11 and 2nd in the league.  On the girls side, Maddy Bradford and Kyle Oefelein both ran great races to lead the Varsity girls.  Maddy ran a 17:32, for a new PR and a 2nd place finish in the league, and Kyle ran an excellent race breaking 18:00 for the first time, finishing 4th in the league!
Week Schedule:
Non Varsity athletes:
1.       You need to check in every day.  If you are switching to a sport other than Track, please contact that coach and go to the counseling office to get the proper paperwork.  If you are continuing on to Track, we will continue to meet by the high jump pit.  I am hoping to get  you some time in the weight room next week, and allow you some time to rest and recover from your season.

2.       Please wash your uniforms and be prepared to return them next week.

Varsity races are on  Saturday at 8:14am for the boys and 9:21 for the girls at Mt. Sac.  We will need to arrange transport to the meet as there is no bus.  Athletes who are not racing are welcome to come, however be aware there is an entrance fee.
Again, great job everyone on the season!

Cross Country Newsletter 10/29/12

Thursday was our second league meet at Mason park. Mason Park is a flat fast course, which makes an exciting meet with the opportunity for new PR’s. We had a total of 61 new PR’s at the Meet, so I would like to congratulate all the athletes who received a new PR for the season! I was pleased with all the hard work put out by the athletes as they continued to push themselves to run faster. Keep up the great work!
On the boys side, JV boys took 1
st place, Varsity boys took 2nd place (by 5 points), and Frosh Soph boys took 2nd.
On the girls side, JV girls took 2
nd, Varsity Girls took 1st (by 2 points), and Frosh Soph girls took 3rd.
Very exciting races to say the least! On the boys Varsity team, we had some excellent performances from both Jackson Marshall who broke the 15 minute barrier for the first time (taking first in the meet), and Ralphy Lara who broke 16 minutes for the first time to run 15:40. Great Job guys! Next week we will need to continue working on closing the gap between our 1
st and 5th runners.
On the Varsity Girls side the close spacing between our 1
st and 5th runner helped win the meet. The race could easily have gone either way, but the ladies showed their determination and dedication to pull through. For just about every one of our runners, it seemed like they were being challenged for their place on the whole run, and it was a pleasure watching our girls hold on to their positions and not give in to the exhaustion. I’d like to congratulate Olivia Rodriguez for running her fastest race of the year, and Emilie Birchler and Hannah O’Conner who held off Northwood’s 5th runner, giving our team their victory. Next week we need to be prepared again for an even more intense battle, as both our team and Northwood know the league championship is within reach. We will need everyone to run their best race of the year if we want to secure that championship title.
For many of our athletes (all non-Varsity athletes), this coming meet on Friday will be their final meet of the season. It is my hope that every athlete will take advantage of this final meet (which is another fast course), and end the season not just with a lot of fun memories, but with a sense of pride in their accomplishments.
Athlete of the meet: Jackson Marshall who took 1
st in his race and broke 15 minutes for the first time, and Olivia Rodriguez who ran over 30 seconds faster than her season PR on the girls team.
Weekly schedule
Monday: No Bus, practice is at Woodbridge
Tuesday -Thursday practice as usual at Woodbridge
Friday: League Championships at Irvine Regional Park.
